The Emotional Roller Coaster Of Gardening

I was so excited!!! The cantaloupe looked ready. I was concerned that it was no longer attached to the vine as it was hiding under the foliage. I thought...Mr H is gonna be so happy to have fresh cantaloupe out of the garden with dinner. So I sliced it open and my heart sunk. From extreme high to way down low....there was mold growing inside the loupe. Dang it! The rest of it looked so good. I was so upset I threw it out. (Took a pic first though) Has anyone experienced this? What made the mold grow so quickly inside? It was attached to the vine a few days ago. Thankfully there are other cantaloupes out there and I shall be diligent everyday watching and waiting for the perfect time to cut the stem myself!
On a brighter note, I thought for sure this watermelon was doomed. The stem has been dried up, but the outside just did not look ready! It is so confusing. I took a chance and after the cantaloupe debacle, I was sure I was gonna lose this melon as well. Back up on that high again, the melon was not only ripe....it is soooo sweet! It may be small....enough for two people to enjoy for a tasty treat....but well worth it. I have another out there also looks ready as this one. I shall pick it later this morning when I make my venture out there to check on things.

This garden has given me so many highs where you reach the top and think...I did it! Then suddenly you are taken on a fast ride down the hill where you say to yourself...why oh why....the best thing about it is, I am learning from my mistakes and achievements. I also want to note that there are a few green beans growing out there....maybe there will be fresh green beans in our future.
