Yayyy!!! I finally got my little greenhouse! (Thanks to Christmas money from the parents and inlaws!) It was only $39.99 at work and with my discount and $5 off coupon, it was a little over $30. It is a little over 5' tall and very roomy inside. There is ample space between the shelves for growth. I will keep this indoors until I am able to take it outside. For now, I will use it to get seeds started and keep young plants inside.

Much to my surprise at work, I also found Luffa seeds. I am going to get these started here shortly, since they require a long growing season that includes drying before the first frost. The back of the package of seeds says 100-120 tils maturity, so I want to get these started and plant outside as soon as the danger of frost is gone in May.

In here, I started some of the herbs I purchased. I will transplant them to bigger pots and herb baskets when they are big enough. Some may think too early to get seeds started? I don't think so. I will get a lot of use out this greenhouse to keep plants going. I am thinking that I will have more plants than I need and may possibly spread the wealth around by giving extra plants to friends, neighbors and family, to save them the cost of buying tomatoes, herbs and some veggies. Let's just hope this all works out and I have a greener thumb than I think I do. I have never really started from seed like this, as I have always just bought the plants already started.
I think I will get a few more seeds, like annuals, that I use to make planters out of.
I will be following the progress of all this here on the blog for the next couple months. Only 4 more months until I can plant everything outdoors. I am very excited for this years garden, as I have so many plans and hope they all work out without too much issue. This is a new adventure for me, starting from seed, as I have always taken the easy way out by purchasing plants already started. So, hopefully, after this growing season is over, I will also learn to how to save seeds, to cut the cost of purchasing so many next year.

Love that greenhouse!
I start a lot of things from seed...usually TOO MANY-LOL- one year I gave flats of veggies and flowers away....I had way too many! (and I hate to "thin"...it makes for a beter stronger plant...but i feel so bad pullin those poor little seddlings out!)
It's fun to watch all the lil seeds start sprouting up! I always try to buy at least one "new" variety of plant every year...just to see if i can grow it!
I just love to watch things grow! :)
Enjoy your new greenhouse!
Hugs-Kath
Laurie you will love your little greenhouse.I have one and they are great. Hang lights in it to overwinter flowers also besides starting seeds and plants. Easy to move in and outdoors.Wish I had two of them now :)
Hi Laurie. I'm a lazy gardener and start everything in my garden by putting the seed direcctly in the soil where I want it to grow lol.
If you aren't sure how to process the loofah, there is a post on my site about it. Did you know you can also eat them when they are small? They taste very much like a zuchinni I am told.
Just found your blog. Great information. I'm new to gardening so I will be following you regularly. Laurie, where did you get the greenhouse? I am new to starting seed and it would be a perfect fit for my house. I wonder how many seeds can be started using it? I have just under 1/3 acre and plan to use much of it for growning fruit and vegetables so I'll need plenty of greenhouse space to start seeds. Thanks for your help. Oh, and I tried to enlarge several pictures by clicking on them but couldn't. I wanted to see a closeup of that arbor your husband built. Denise.
